It’s now been 2.5 years since I returned home. For those that don’t know, I’m originally from The Bahamas, and now live in the UK. My April trip home was cancelled when countries, including The Bahamas, began announcing travel bans to prevent the spread of Covid-19, a necessary measure.
Given the likelihood of travelling there anytime soon being next to none, I’m missing my family, friends, and the beauty of The Bahamas more and more. With everything going on, I’d love nothing more than to sit on the beach for a couple hours…with a daiquiri…a little rum. Throw in a tropical conch salad too. The beach, or anywhere near the water, has always been a bit of a zen place for me.
In the midst of the lockdown, and even prior to, I was looking for a new job. With everything on the fritz, I never expected to achieve that anytime soon. Yet, here I am, with my one week off prior to starting over again. It’s disconcerting, but exciting. Although, I’m sure it’ll be an adjustment to start a new job whilst working from home. We’ll see how that goes.
All that to say, this would have been the perfect time for a beach escape. Nevertheless, here’s to hoping I get to go The Bahamas once it’s safe to travel.
