I’m working on featuring more Black-owned brands. Although I’ve featured several Black-owned haircare brands over the years, I haven’t shown many of the other types of BOBs that I patronise regularly. Bfyne is one of my favourite swimwear brands, known for bold patterns and designs crafted to always give a sexy finish. The following excerpt is about the owner Buki Ade:
Designer, entrepreneur and Nigerian-American, Buki Ade is changing the fashion industry through her culturally inclusive designs. She was inspired to start a swimwear line after searching for a unique swimsuit while on vacation; there she realised the industry lacked creativity and representation of African designers. One swimsuit and more than 200 thousand social media followers later, Bfyne swimwear has been featured on the pages of Vogue, Glamour and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Her line, an unapologetic tribute to women’s curves and confidence, with purposely-cut lines and strategically placed seams, make even the most boyish figure alluring.
I’m not sure how many Bfyne suits I own currently, definitely more than 5, maybe closer to 10. The swimsuits are high quality; I’ve never had an issue with them. They’ve been washed several times without ever fading or becoming tattered. I used the size charts on the site to pick the best size. I’ve gained some weight but can still fit the small. However, I think for the 2 pieces, I might size up for a more comfortable fit…and less risk of exposure.
