Duping Melt Cosmetics Muerte Palette with BPerfect Carnival XL

As I’ve mentioned in a few post, my eyes react to anything with carmine. I didn’t realise that carmine was the ingredient causing my reactions until earlier this year, long after picking up the Melt Cosmetics Muerte palette for my birthday last year.

I’ve been going through my newer palettes to test whether or not I have a reaction. I did the blue shades on one eye and red on the other eye; foolishly, I didn’t change brushes whilst applying the different shadows. I wound up with a severe reaction in both eyes…the worst reaction I’ve ever had to any eyeshadow product. It was terrible. I don’t think I’ve even worn eyeshadow since.

Although I clearly can’t use the Muerte palette, I still love the colour story. That inspired me to find dupes in my stash that are carmine-free. This led me to the BPerfect Cosmetics x Stacey Marie Carnival XL palette, a vibrant blend of matte and metallic shadows with 3 highlighters.

The Muerte shadows have more impact with one swipe whereas the Carnival XL shadows may take a little more building, particularly for the shimmer colours. The shimmers would work better on a sticky base.

Here, I’ve shown all of the shadows on bare skin, swatched with a finger. Although these colours aren’t an exact dupe obviously, but it’s close enough that you can replicate the colour story and expand on it.

I love the Carnival XL palette and can’t wait to see what colours are in the third release: Carnival Love Tahiti. BPerfect will release details of the new collection beginning 27 July 2020. So far, only the packaging has been shown. BPerfect Cosmetics is available through several retailers, including BPerfect’s official site and Beauty Bay.

Melt Cosmetics has palettes that are vegan friendly, but none of the colour stories have motivated me to buy another palette yet. The 4/20 palette almost got me, but the reviews told me to keep my coins. Melt Cosmetics products available in/on Sephora.
