Empties #22: A Little Bit of Everything…

This post is beyond overdue; it’s all of my 2019 empties! There are so many, I dreaded writing mini reviews for all of them. However, self-isolation really leaves a lot of free time. Below are reviews of some of the full size products that I liked.

Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask: This is my favourite lip balm. It has a thick, almost petroleum-like consistency, but with more spreadability. It has a lightly sweet flavour. The Lip Mask comes in a small range of colours. The natural/plain one, I use that on my nose when I’m ill to prevent dryness and peeling. I’ve used it on my hands. I’ve even used it on burns. It’s multi-purpose. Last year Sephora had them marked down to $6 so I stocked up. (Available here)

Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm: This is a no-frills product. It does exactly what it says. It has a thick smooth consistency, that becomes an oil when rubbed in. I remove it with a damp washcloth and follow it with a foaming cleanser. I like this, but it’s overpriced. There’s nothing special about the ingredients. I only purchase it at the CCO during sales. (Available here)

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Moisturiser: Glow Recipe is one of my favourite skincare brands. This is a lightweight moisturiser, but it gives full hydration! It wears well under makeup also. I mainly used it in my morning routine, but sometimes I’d use it in the evening mixed with an oil. It has a nice fruity fragrance that’s not overwhelming. I’ve gone through 2 bottles of this. I’m sure I’ll repurchase at some point. (Available here)

Olaplex No 3 Hair Perfector: Love! Love! Love! This is one product where I really notice the difference when I don’t have it. It’s not the cheapest, but it works. It’s helped me preserve my hair texture throughout all of the colour sessions. I also switched to using the brand’s shampoo and conditioner. I’ve lost track of how many bottles of the Hair Perfector I’ve used. As long as the formula stays the same, I’ll keep buying it. (Available here)

Oyin Handmade Hair Dew: Full review available here.

Pureology Hydrate Colour Care Shampoo & Conditioner: My hair stylist recommended these after she started colouring my hair. They have a bit of peppermint oil and I loved the tingle on my scalp. Some people hate that. The conditioner always made my hair feel smoother, but I wouldn’t repurchase it because it contains alcohol. The shampoo never wowed me either. (Available here)

Rohto Mentholatum Hado Labo Gokujyun Premium Lotion: This is the premium version of Hado Labo’s Hyaluronic Acid Lotion; it contains 5 different types of hyaluronic acid, each with a different molecular weight so each penetrates to a different layer of the skin. The Premium lotion has the texture of a light serum; there’s no noticeable fragrance. I’ve been using this for just over a year. I’m about to finish my second bottle. The bottles are 170ml/6 fl oz so they’re cost-effective and last a long time. The Premium Lotion also wears well under makeup. I use it morning and night. Sometimes I mix it in with other products like Sunday Riley Luna or Juno. I also use this on my body and apply my lotion on top. Definitely going to purchase another bottle soon. (Available here)

Sunny Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil: This has been a staple for my edges for years. I prefer the extra dark version, but the regular one is decent also.

YSL Parisienne: I’ve worn this since I was at Howard. Every few years I buy I new bottle. It’s more about the nostalgia of the fragrance. It’s soft, light, fruity-floral that’s perfect for spring and summer. (Available here)
