I found out about Bobeam while reading threads on CurlTalk. Now, I had never tried shampoo bars, and wasn’t sure which of her products would suit my hair. So I contacted the owner, Laquita, with the intent of trying to purchase sample sizes. Well currently, sample sizes aren’t available, but I do think she’s working on adding more sizes. She was nice enough to send me three mini bars to try in the meantime. So far I’ve only tried the Honey & Oats Shampoo Bar, but I’m definitely impressed (enough to stalk her Etsy shop. Yes, it is that serious! She sells out quickly!).
Ingredients: Saponified vegetable oils (mainly Coconut Oil), Glycerine, Honey, Purified Water, Sorbital (berries, moisturizer), Sorbitan Oleate, (emulsifier), Soybean protein (conditioner)
Thoughts: I was apprehensive at first because I hadn’t tried shampoo bars before, and I had just done an intense protein treatment so in the back of my mind I was thinking “dry, dry, and more dry!” That was not the case at all. The bar lathered easily with 1-2 swipes against scalp and/or hair. I finger-detangled with nothing but the lather from the shampoo bar! Now the only shampoo I’ve ever been able to detangle with was Creme of Nature Detangling Shampoo, and I haven’t used it in years and never on my natural hair so this was a relatively new experience. It rinsed easily; my hair was clean but not stripped. I’ve read some reviews where people say they could go without conditioning afterwards. Of course I had to test that out. I waited a few minutes before conditioning just to see how my hair would feel. It started to get slightly tangled, so I applied my conditioner and all was right again.
Note: Laquita’s instructions do state “remember to condition”.
I will say the only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the fragrance. Not too fond of oatmeal. The scent isn’t strong, but it does linger.
My bar took a couple days to completely dry after using it. I keep it wrapped in a dry towel.
