Review: Fresh Soy Face Cleanser

Since I changed up my skincare routine almost a year ago, Fresh Soy Face Cleanser is the only cleanser that I have bought more than once.

Product Claims: Fresh Soy Face Cleanser is your must-have cleanser and go-to makeup remover. This gel cleanser for all skin types gently washes off every day impurities like dirt and makeup—even mascara—without drying the skin.

The face cleanser tones, soothes, and softens the skin for a radiant, healthy-looking complexion. Amino acid-rich soy proteins help support natural elasticity and healthy skin, while rosewater is notable for its calming and balancing properties. The cleanser is further enriched with calming cucumber extract to soothe the skin and borage seed oil to nourish. Soy Face Cleanser is extra gentle and can be used daily, morning and night—even around the eye area.

Ingredients: Water, Coco-Glucoside, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Peg-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Xanthan Gum, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Borago Officinalis Seed Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Rosa Damascena Flower Water, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Centaurea Cyanus Flower Extract, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterols, Rosa Damascena Flower Oil, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Malva Sylvestris (Mallow) Extract, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Peg-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate, Peg-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Caprylyl Glycol, Polysorbate 20, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Benzoic Acid, Disodium Edta, Citric Acid, Behenyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Lecithin, Pentylene Glycol, Caramel, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Phenoxyethanol.

Review: Although this is advertised as a makeup remover, I don't use it for that and would not recommend it for that purpose. I prefer balms to remove makeup. I use this cleanser as an morning cleanse or my second cleanse with a Clarisonic in the evenings. It gently removes any traces of makeup left behind from my first cleanse and gives me a fresh palate for products to be applied afterwards. The Soy Face Cleanser does lather, but I've never had an issue with it stripping my skin or any tightness after use. It's gentle enough for me to use over my eyes and not be concerned about any burning sensations.

My bottles are empty so I can't show the consistency, but it is that of a gel with a cloudy off-white colour. The fragrance of this cleanser is comparable to cucumber-melon. I think Bath & Body Works had a fragrance like this a few years ago. It's really fresh, nice and crisp - perfect in the mornings or after a long day. My only qualm with this cleanser is that I wish it came in a pump bottle. However, the tube makes it easy to travel with.

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser retails for $15 for 1.7oz/50ml and $38 for 5.1oz/150ml at Sephora. The price is comparable to similar cleansers and actually comes in a bit cheaper when you look at the size. In the UK, this cleanser is available for £11.50 for the 1.7oz/50ml size at Harrods and for £30.00 for the 5.1oz/50ml size at John Lewis.

Would I repurchase? Yes, I've gone through a 50ml and 20ml sample size. Fresh was one of the Sephora birthday sets last year. I'm still searching for staple cleansers, but this one might just be it. I've only downgraded the performance rating because it isn't a good makeup remover as stated in their marketing.
