Review: Tasti Kiss Essentials Mai Sweet Carla

Last year, I bought a couple of the Tasti Kiss Essentials' butters intending to use them on my hair but have since mainly used them as body products. Mai Sweet Carla is the first up for review.

Product Claims: Mai Sweet Carla is packed with humectants to help aid with frizz and moisture in humid weather. Add on top of your favorite leave in as a "sealant" or "topper" butter, or add with a gel for twist outs and braided styles. This butter is rich with humectants and is also good for low porosity hair, hair that doesn't absorb water (moisture) easily.

Ingredients: African Yellow Shea Butter, Glycerin, Castor, Jojoba, Grape Seed Oil, Raw Honey, Vitamin E, Neem, and Fragrance.

Thoughts:
When I originally received this butter, it was so firm that it was difficult to use. I had a hard time emulsifying it, and it didn't apply smoothly to my hair or body. It sat in my stash for awhile simple because I didn't know what to do with it. A few months later, I pulled it out and noticed that it had softened due to the increasing temperatures. That was literally the best thing that could have happened to this product for me. Normally, I hate when my butters melt, but with Mai Sweet Carla, the texture improved. It softened, but didn't liquefy. It's now easy to emulsify and smooths on my hair and body with no problem. A small amount of product goes a long way. I can use it on wet or dry hair. For my body, I prefer to use it as soon as I get out of the shower, while my skin is still wet. My skin has improved tremendously after using this consistently.

Mai Sweet Carla smells like bubblegum...those large pink rolls of bubblegum. It's not too strong, but it does linger very faintly for a short amount of time. I can still wear perfume and the butter won't mar nor compete with the my fragrance of choice.

Both butters that I purchased were filled to the brim. Even though I use this in and around water, the label is in tact with minimal fading around the edges. All of the ingredients are visible. My lid cracked after dropping it several times, but that's my own fault.

Shipping was extremely fast. I don't recall exactly how many days it took, but I do remember I was impressed.

I don't really have any cons about the product. Because it's a butter, I understand manufacturers can't control how firm or soft butter-based products are when shipped and/or received. I know now how I prefer this product and that I can get it to my preferred texture with a little bit of heat. I'd normally have an issue with the price, but because it lasts for so long, that wouldn't deter me from buying. Plus, I only purchase during sales.

Tasti Kiss Essentials products are available through her site and select online and brick-and-mortar stores. Mai Sweet Carla retails for $16 (8oz). I know it's also available in smaller sizes, but the site is down for maintenance so I can't check the prices or sizing right now.

Would I repurchase? Yes, definitely! Plus I have been waiting to try the Ayurvedic Butter.

Please note this is a review for use as a body product. Below is how I'd rate the product in the following categories:

Ratings:
Price: 4/5
Packaging: 5/5
Fragrance: 5/5
Performance: 5/5
