Protective Style: Kinky Twists #2

For the past four and a half weeks, I was wearing kinky twists. It's admittedly backwards that I'm creating a post after taking them out, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

Prior to installing the twists, I prepared my hair by doing a collagen treatment (Umberto Pre-Shampoo Collagen Treatment), shampooing (Shea Moisture Organic Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo), and deep conditioning (Karen's Body Beautiful Luscious Locks Hair Mask).

While twisting I used Donna Marie Dream Curling Cream, Miss Jessie's Unscented Curly Pudding, and Design Essentials Natural Defining Creme Gel. I alternated depending on which fragrance I was sick of at any given moment. I completed the twists over the course of two days braiding the first inch and then tightly twisting the rest of each. Read more about my twisting method here. I used 6 packs of Janet Collection Marley Hair in total.

My regimen during the past month has been extremely simple. Each day, morning and night, I sprayed my scalp with Shea Moisture African Black Soap Scalp Elixir (until I ran out one unfortunate day); oiled my scalp with either Afroveda Shikakai Hair Growth Elixir Herbal Hair Oil or Afroveda Hibiscus Hair Infusion Herbal Hair Oil; lightly misted my strands with Shea Moisture Organic Coconut and Hibiscus Hold and Shine Moisture Mist; and sealed with one of the aforementioned Afroveda oils. During this time, I did not shampoo or condition. I didn't have any scalp issues, not too itchy or any buildup. That was largely in part due to the Scalp Elixir and the lightness of the Afroveda oils.

On the last day, I wore a twist out. (Pictures on Instagram)

Overall, I like the style but hate the time it takes to complete. However, I spent significantly less time on my hair the past month so a two-day install isn't so bad. I probably won't do this again until winter, because it was extremely hot in 80°F-and-up weather with 6 whole packs of Marley hair on my head. No sir, I cannot do that again!
