Update: Afrotique Never Go Dry

Image
Just a quick update. I mentioned in my last update that I was concerned about the water-based products not having stronger preservatives. Well, I have had the products for about 2 months now, in this Bahamian heat, and I have had no problems. I don't refrigerate my products either so that should give you an idea of how well they hold up.

Why No Posts Lately?

Image
Lately, I haven't been posting much due to personal reasons. On top of that, my phone broke, so I couldn't quickly upload pictures to social media, and now I am realizing that the memory card for my digital camera is blank...UGH!

Nevertheless, I am determined to get back to posting.

Starting tonight!

I'm so pissed about this memory card! All my product photos gone, just gone! SMH

Review: Afrotique Never Go Dry Product Line

Image
Update: This line is now called Curl Me Crazy Handmade.
**I received these products for the purpose of review. All reviews are my honest opinion.**
Note: I do not know the price on a few items but will update the post once I do. Living in the Caribbean, accessibility to "natural" hair products is not so simple. Of course products can be ordered online, but with the cost of shipping, customs, and duty tax, it becomes very costly. Finding Afrotique, a line based right in The Bahamas, I definitely wanted to try it and share it with my readers.

I found out about Afrotique through a mutual friend's page on Facebook. The line is based in Nassau, Bahamas and available at Afrotique Hair & Nail Studio located on Soldier Road near the entrance of Kennedy Subdivision (upstairs in the pink building with white trim). The products I'll be reviewing are the Moisture Cream Daily Lotion, Moisture Cream (butter), Today Oil, and Sweet Hair Jelly. Of all the products in the line, …

My Wash & Go Routine

Image
It has taken a lot of experimentation to find a wash and go routine that works best for me. Watching videos on Youtube and reading blogs were a good start, but I had to learn what worked best for my hair. Here are some of the tips and tricks I've learned work for my hair:

Detangle: I originally hated wash and go's because they were a nightmare for me to detangle, but with this tool (click the link) and generously applied conditioner, I am able to detangle with ease and in 4 or 6 sections. I keep my hair in these same sections when applying the stylers. Apply product on soaking wet hair: I have tried and tried to get the same results using a spray bottle, but fact is, I get better results while in the shower. My hair is more defined and the natural pattern is more visible. Squeeze out excess product: I smooth my hands down each section not only to help with definition, but to also remove any excess product. This helps reduce likelihood of having white residue. Cold water rinse:…

Pudding Stylers I'm Loving (For the Moment)

Image
Lately I've been styling with cream-y gels topped with a little bit of Donna Marie Miracurl Curling Gelly (DM MCG) to do my wash and go's. Using DM MCG on top gives extra hold yielding multi-day hair. I've tried quite a few pudding-type stylers and have even more to try still, but below are my favorites so far. Reviews are sure to follow.

Review: Hairveda Red Tea Satin Moisturizer

Image
This is going to be a short review because I don't have too much to say about the product.

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), African Red Bush (Rooibos Tea), Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Nut Oil, Orbignya Oleifera (Babassu) Seed Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Oil, Lauryl Laurate, Olive Fruit Oil, Hydrogenated Castor oil, Beeswax, Emulsifying wax (Ceteareth 20), Carnauba Wax, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Pomegranate Extract, Capsicum annum (Paprika) powder, Candelilla Wax, Paraben-free Preservative, Phthalate-free Fragrance.

I don't love or hate it. It's just ok. I've had the Hairveda Red Tea Satin Moisturizer for a couple months now and have had time to experiment with it. I prefer to use it as a leave-in. I didn't care for it as a refresher/moisturizer on dry hair. It just wasn't moisturizing enough for me to use solely this on dry hair.

It's a peach-colored product with a lotion-like consistency. It spre…
