Review: As I Am Naturally Coconut Co-Wash

Image
It's been a long time since I've done a review, but I have been trying out some new products, new to me at least.

As I Am Naturally is a more affordable hair product line geared towards natural hair care. They recently became available at Sally Beauty Supply so of course I went and picked up something during one of their sales.

The Coconut Co-Wash is a cleansing conditioner that is supposed to remove product without stripping the hair. Did it do that for me? Yes! Ampro Clear Ice is no joke. BUT the Coconut Co-Wash effectively removed the buildup.

Ingredients:
Aqueous (Water, Aqua Purificada, Purified) Extracts: Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) and Citrus Reticulata (Tangerine), Cetyl Alcohol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Cetearyl Alcohol, PEG-40 Castor Oil, Stearlkonium chloride, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Phytosterols, Serenoa Serrulata Fruit Extract, Quaternium-18, Potassium Sorbate, Fragrance/Parfum, Limonene, Methylisothiazolinone.

I have also u…

My hair yesterday was a complete mess so I slapped on exorbitant amounts of Ampro Clear Ice to smooth the sides and pull it back. I knew I'd have to remedy the bricks that had formed on the sides of my head. Yes, my hair was that hard! Last night, I sprayed the sides with African Pride Braid Sheen Spray to soften the gelled parts, and then applied As I Am Naturally Coconut Co-Wash as my overnight DC. In the morning, I did the following:

Rinsed
Protein Treatment: Curl Junkie Repair Me (review coming)
Leave-in: As I Am Naturally Coconut Co-Wash (review coming) followed by Darcy's Botanicals Cream Curling Gel
Sealant: Qhemet Biologics Aethiopika Hydrate & Twist Butter

After all of this, I blew out my hair and went about my day. My hair feels extremely soft. It hasn't shrunken much. I make sure to use products without humectants whenever I blow my hair out.

Another wash-n-go:

Cleanser: Curl Junkie Daily Fix
Conditioner/LI: Curl Junkie Curl Assurance Smoothing Daily Hair Conditioner
Styler: Curl Junkie Curls in a Bottle

So... I'm actually surprised by the results. I expected frizzy, dry, dull hair. I got the opposite. My hair is defined with a soft hold. My crown is a bit frizzy, but that part usually is no matter what I use. There's also a nice sheen to my hair. It feels very soft and touchable.

I'll be doing a full review next.

I miss my blowouts and big hair, but shrunken hair isn't so bad.

Another wash-n-go:

Rinse: warm water
Leave-in: Oyin Handmade Hair Dew
Styler: Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding Unscented
Finisher: Curl Junkie Curls in a Bottle

The results were similar to when I used Qhemet Biologics Honeybush Tea Soft Gel: Definition with minimal to no crunch. I think the crunch might be caused by the CJ CIAB though. I'll find out once I'm brave enough to try the products on their own, but for now, I need CIAB in my life. The only issue I had with this combo was the whiteness. It dried clear, but if you have to go out as soon as you finish applying product, which I did, it's not a good look. I did my hair almost 5 hours ago; it is mostly dry except for the roots in the back. No flaking, and no residue. I also think that I had to use more product, but I think the packaging is at fault there. Having to scoop out product while in the shower is highly inconvenient. (This comment also applies to QB HTSG.)

Overall, nice combo, but the others were better because th…

March 4

Rinse: warm water

Styler: Qhemet Biologics Honeybush Tea Soft Gel (LOVE!!! Hold with no crunch!)
Finisher: Curl Junkie Curls in a Bottle

So I was trying all three of these stylers for the first time, and I loved them all. I will try them without CJ CIAB next to see if the results are still the same. I'm finally at the point where I comfortable with my wash-n-go look, not to mention I'm feeling too lazy to actually style my hair, but that's besides the point.
