The Best Tool For Your Hair, and It's Free!

So what exactly is the best tool for your hair, and how could it be free? Well if you guessed your fingers, then you'd be correct. As to how it's free, well that's obvious.

For the past month, I've been solely using my fingers in my hair. I decided to try this after a particularly knotty situation and a long detangling session. I was frustrated with my products and the inadequacy of my detangling comb and pseudo-Denman, whose real brand name has long since rubbed off. I had never tried detangling solely with my fingers simply because I thought my hair was too kinky for it. Heck, even parting with my fingers used to be a hassle. Now, that I know what I'm doing, it's not a problem.

Here's my process: I detangle much the same way I would with any other tool. While my hair is wet and saturated with conditioner, I start at the ends and work my way up to the roots making sure to push my fingers through each section at different angles. Once I can smoothly go from …
